Constructed from steel and sandstone, Tennessee Pherein stands seventy inches tall and was presented in 1991 at the First Annual Outdoor Sculpture Invitational by GRACE with sponsorship by Walker and Company. This painted work sculpted by artist Joseph Wesner, a Philadelphia native who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and his Master’s of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Before his untimely death in 2002, Wesner was the Chair of the Sculptural Department at the Center for Creative Studies and was well-known for his abstract sculptures of wood and metal.
