TEMPORARY ART

Sleeping Tree

October 10 - November 15, 2008

The artist has installed a twenty-two foot dead dogwood tree inside the gallery where it stretches across the room as though asleep. Along its trunk and branches, tiny fern seedlings sprout and carpet the old bark with bright green foliage. Around the gallery luminous works on paper bring a sense of the heavens to this earthy place. At the completion of the gallery part of the project, the tree was taken to a local elementary school for further investigation of its biological journey. Thus the project exemplified and extended Reston values of incorporation of the natural world, environmental concerns and art and culture mutually and in many aspects of community life.

Organized by Greater Reston Arts Center.
IPAR sponsored the exhibition.
