In the spring of 2015 Public Art Reston, in collaboration with Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), presented an exciting and interactive environmental art installation by sculptor opens in a new windowPatrick Dougherty in Reston Town Square Park, accompanied by an exhibition at the GRACE gallery documenting Dougherty’s works from around the world. Patrick Dougherty is an land art sculptor who is well-known for his monumental, site-specific sculptures created from locally-sourced saplings. With his sculptures, Patrick Dougherty creates magical, immersive works that respond to the natural and built environments they inhabit. This ambitious project for Reston harnessed community volunteers to assist with the collection of saplings and the creation of the work itself—a process that was visible to the public. The public installation in Reston Town Square has remained onsite for two years.
