South Lakes STEAM Team’s Calendar Sales Success

STEAM Team calendar sales have come to a close! We would like to thank all who purchased a calendar as well as James Pan for his generous contribution to the team. We would also like to thank Mary Prochnow & Laura Lew for their support in distribution. Laura also coordinated the in-person sales at Lake Anne and South Lakes High School. Further thanks to parents Heather Stec and Lisa Moore.

Lastly, thank you Reston Museum for selling calendars to support the STEAM Team.

The STEAM Team raised $7,883, which will go directly to the 2024 Lake Thoreau installation. Looking forward to seeing the students’ vision come to life!

STEAM Team at Hunters Woods

STEAM Team at Hunters Woods Fellowship

After the conclusion of calendar sales, the STEAM Team took the remaining calendars to Hunters Woods Fellowship House to gift to residents. This visit was coupled by a art workshop where the students followed along with residents learning how to brush pain Chinese characters. The opening for the exhibition of the artwork created at the workshop was February 22.

STEAM Team advisor, Marco Rando, says “this particular program was started last year. Mark Fleming, financial director of the Hunters Woods Fellowship House, came to me with the idea of curating art shows for their new gallery space created during a building remodel. I discussed the opportunity with my colleague Dr. Matt Ravenstahl. We suggested to Mr. Fleming that we would like if students took on curatorial roles as well as workshop instructors as a way to expand our art education curriculum – the real world experience element required in engaging the community through a creative public art dialogue.”

The next workshop that the students will run with the seniors is in May.

They will create the art for the next exhibition.
