c. 1991 | Steel
Parkridge Center has housed many public artworks since 1991, when Walker and Company and Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) sponsored an outdoor sculpture exhibition by prominent sculptors. Austin Collins’ sculpture Questions is one of these works. To this day, the abstract work composed of steel remains on the grounds. A part of a series of works discussing various forms of questioning, Questions’ abstract shapes climb on one another and build in its dark and life-size form. The artist tells a story with thick lines of steel and seemingly precarious balance juxtaposed with the solidity of the material. Austin Collins is a professor of Art, Art History, and Design at the University of Notre Dame and has work displayed in forty private and public collections nationwide. The artwork was removed in Fall 2014.
