Tile Mural is a collaboration piece between Argentinean artist Alfredo Ratinoff and Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences’ sixth grade students. Abby Eisenberg, HWES’s Art Specialist, used recurring themes from the student’s work to create a final design for the Artist-in-Residence mural. Individual six-by-six inch tiles were designed from a compilation of the students’ drawings, then assembled together to create a six-by-nine foot glazed tile mural placed in front of the school. Alfredo Ratinoff specialized for many years in large-scale installations of tile and mosaic murals and his works are in many private collections all over the United States. He is currently an instructor at the Smithsonian Resident Association program.
